Universal syncronicities

The Universe never ceases to amaze me. I am close to finishing my first novel, although I realised last week that I need to add a chapter about a key character: a man who experienced institutional abuse as a child. I understood some factors but was at a loss about how he might respond in certain situations and, more importantly, why he reacted the way he did. How does trauma affect him emotionally, physically, and spiritually, and how does it impact the people around him?

I was invited to a winter solstice gathering, which was a delightful excuse for whisky tasting and hearty food around a campfire. I almost didn’t go because I was busy writing with a deadline looming over me. Even though I recognised that I could use a break, I thought I’d just pop in for an hour.

To my surprise (I really should stop being surprised), at the gathering, I met a fellow who is doing his Master’s thesis on men who were institutionalised and the effects on their wellbeing (I can’t remember the exact title). Two hours of rapid chatting later, I had made a new mate and had the key concepts I needed to spend the rest of the weekend writing the chapter.
