The Dirty P Word
A former colleague rang and advised me against having the words ‘psychic medium’ on my LinkedIn profile and professional website.
They were concerned that using such words would turn people off my services, be unprofessional, and not attract the right clientele. I heard what she was saying because I spent months, no, years, pushing down those exact words but also unsure how to describe what I do.
I am a health professional, educator, facilitator, and project manager. Collaborating with First Nation people across Australia, we are developing a documentary following my spiritual journey as a non-Indigenous woman, guided by people and communities with a strong connection to Spirit.
How could I say something so esoteric? I thought I veiled it by saying that I had ‘psychic medium abilities’, but obviously, that was still confronting.
In an era where people are increasingly drawn to mindfulness and self-awareness, the label ‘psychic medium’ often carries a certain mystique, triggering scepticism and uncertainty, where the word 'intuition' is more accepted.
We all have intuitive abilities to some extent, as it refers to understanding or knowing something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning. It is often described as a gut feeling, hunch, or an inner sense of knowing. It is developed from accumulating experiences, knowledge, and subtle cues that may not be immediately apparent to the conscious mind.
Psychic ability encompasses a broader range of phenomena beyond average human sensory and cognitive experiences. It includes abilities such as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, and more. Abilities are often attributed to a heightened sensitivity or connection to spiritual or energetic realms.
I have known things I can’t possibly know for most of my life. Some would call it a gift. I don’t. I call it an ability. Primarily because I have spent years working on accepting and developing what I do and what I am capable of. A piano virtuoso or a professional athlete may have been born with a heightened gift, but they have worked incredibly hard to get where they are.
Like most people, I am on a journey of self-discovery, though for now, as I follow my spiritual path, I have changed the language on both my profile and webpage. I no longer offer Psychic Readings; I now offer Intuitive Sessions!
So, here's to the power of intuition! Let's celebrate the incredible journey of self-discovery and personal growth that comes with tuning into our inner guidance.
