Stepping Into a New Chapter: Mentorship and the Power of Learning
Today marks an exciting milestone in my creative journey — I begin working with the incredible Vicki Bennett as my mentor.
Vicki is an accomplished author, artist, and filmmaker whose work has inspired many, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from her. Mentorship, to me, is not just about guidance; it is about opening doors to new perspectives, deepening understanding, and refining the craft of storytelling. It is about being both a student and an explorer, walking alongside someone who has already navigated the landscape I am stepping into.
As I continue to write my novel — a work that weaves together the complex threads of spirituality, generational trauma, and personal healing — I know this mentorship will be invaluable. I want to honour the depth of these themes with care, clarity, and authenticity. Working with Vicki will help me develop not only the craft of writing but also the courage to bring these sensitive topics into the light, in a way that resonates with readers and sparks meaningful conversations.
Mentorship is a reminder that none of us create in isolation. Our stories are shaped by those who walk before us and beside us. I believe that by investing in this relationship, I’m investing in the depth and reach of my work — and, ultimately, in the readers who will find themselves in these pages.
You may wonder what Yoda has to do with it. I see them as the ultimate mentor and recently I changed my phone ring tone to ““Do or do not. There is no try.” Haha, and if nothing else, it makes me smile each time I hear it.
I look forward to sharing this journey with you as it unfolds.
