Flying Toward Stories That Heal – Auckland Writers Festival 2025
This weekend, I’ll be flying to Auckland to attend the Auckland Writers Festival, one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most vibrant literary gatherings. Held next week, this festival brings together writers, thinkers, and creatives from around the globe to celebrate the power of storytelling.
Among the featured authors this year are Damien Wilkins, whose evocative fiction explores the quiet complexities of ordinary lives; Whiti Hereaka, whose work masterfully weaves Māori perspectives, mythology, and contemporary voice; and Theophila Pratt, a bold emerging writer whose reflections on memory, history, and identity are capturing attention across the region.
As someone writing about generational trauma, healing, and spirituality, this experience is deeply personal. My own work explores how stories—especially those shaped by silence, survival, and ancestral memory—can become instruments of transformation. These themes echo through the festival, where voices from diverse cultures remind us that healing begins with truth-telling.
Attending the festival is more than professional development—it’s a pilgrimage toward community, creative inspiration, and connection. I’ll be soaking up every panel, conversation, and café scribble, and I look forward to sharing my reflections along the way.
